The Report Card measures each of the provinces on 9 parameters, including plans and results in the areas of energy efficiency, codes and standards, regulation of utilities, transportation, public outreach, and communicating the importance of energy efficiency.

What better way for an organization that believes in optimizing the tools of the internet to advance the communities we live in (both real and virtual), than to utilize the leading blogging engine to communicate, share, educate, learn, encourage, and enlighten the audience (and ourselves).

As Chair of Smart Partners of Manitoba, I am thrilled to be part of this group of progressively minded individuals and companies, whose goal is to close the digital divide and to help show how the internet can best be used as an economic development tool.  We invite your participation and comments.

Thanks to one of our Directors, Carole Marshall of Tangent Strategies, who lead the charge in adding this blog to our website.

Let the blogging begin!

Smart Partners current projects involve Business Innovation, ewaste recycling and providing computers to those who could not otherwise afford one.  Discussion is invited in these subject areas as well as IT and Green business concepts.  What does it take to make your existing business green?  What technologies can help the environment?  What kinds of businesses serve a green economy.  While it is certainly true that Canadians enjoy many advantages – generally speaking we have clean water and clean air…  but for how long.  This is a huge country, but is any of it untouched by pollution?

Very interesting video of innovations in “plug-in” hybrid electric vehicles recently on display at the Plug-In 2008 car conference in San Jose, CA.

See the video here.

Are they workable during a Manitoba winter??

In a recent report, The Conference Board of Canada says that Canada is falling behind other industrialized nations in innovation. According to CTV.ca:

“…relative to other countries, Canada placed in the bottom half in a majority of the categories. When it comes to the economy, for example, Canada was listed 11th, and on the environment it placed a dismal 15th place.

The authors state Canada’s performance in the innovation category is especially worrying because of its impact on the other categories. “
